WWE Survivor Series WarGames Preview

We are about to skid into December, which means it is time for the holidays and all the fun and joy that brings. It is also a fun time of year for wrestling fans, with AEW Full Gear taking place last weekend, Wrestle Kingdom 17 on tap at the beginning of January, and WWE’s Survivor Series WarGames taking place this Saturday night.

Survivor Series WarGames

Wrestlemania will always be the biggest WWE PPV/Premium Live Event. Historians, however, will tell you that the first Survivor Series was the most important event in company history. Vince McMahon leveraged the CCTV (early PPV) companies to step away from Jim Crockett Promotions (NWA/WCW) and show his first November PPV with the thinly veiled threat that they wouldn’t get to show Wrestlemania if they broadcast his rival’s show. It worked, many companies took the side of the then WWF, and the rest is history.

Thus, Survivor Series has a huge part to play in wrestling history, and it is only fitting that the event would see the debut of WarGames (a concept directly stolen from the NWA heyday). While we will all miss William Regal and his unique way of shouting WARGAMES from his NXT days, the first-ever main roster Survivor Series WarGames should be an excellent show as it is a stipulation match that is difficult to get wrong.

Random Thoughts

The Bloodline is super protected, but they should take a loss here at the hands of The Brawling Brutes, Drew McIntyre, and Kevin Owens. There are several ways WWE could get to this point, with the most interesting being ‘Honorary Uce’ Sami Zayn turning on the heels (it is what he does) to rejoin Kevin Owens.

This would instantly set up a tag title feud – the story could center on Sami learning the inner workings of the group and how to beat them from his current position of trust – and, importantly, set up some feud for Reigns before the inevitably ‘Mania match with The Rock.

I would love to see it, but with the level of protection they give the family dynasty, I’m not sure I see it happening.

The TBA in the women’s WarGames match is interesting. Becky Lynch makes sense, and if it is her return, then surely there is no way that Team Bianca loses. Other rumors include Beth Phoenix (which would be cool) and Sasha Banks (which would be epic, but it feels like a Royal Rumble return/win is more likely. I expect Rhea Ripley to star here and Nikki Cross to do something wildly crazy.

The best non-WarGames of the night will be the US Title contest which sees Seth Rollins defend against Bobby Lashley and Austin Theory. I am not sure Seth can’t have a bad match, and he deserves a long run with this title, where he gets to steal the show week after week. Boby doesn’t need it – Brock Lesner III is in his future, while Austin Theor doesn’t feel like the right guy to take it off of Rollins this early in his run. Let Seth go wild with the title and have a 15-minute banger here with Theory looking like he will steal the title a bunch of times before Seth “Freakin” Rollins wins.

Always remember, folks. Pro Wrestling is Real.
