WrestleMania 39: Bobby Lashley VS ?

We are now just one week and one day away from 2023’s version of “The Showcase of the Immortals.” On Saturday, April 1, and Sunday, April 2, WWE will broadcast its biggest event of the year from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. As with every WWE event, the card is subject to change and the best-laid plans have a habit (and a history) of falling apart at the last moment. Tickets are scarce – WrestleMania is an event every wrestling fan has to get to at least once as a bucket list item – and with a card headlined by Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes, this is shaping up to be an exciting ‘Mania.

Bobby Lashley’s Opponent

One wrestler whose ‘Mania plans seem to be very much up in the air is Bobby Lashley. Here is a look at some potential opponents for the All-Mighty on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

Bray Wyatt

So this was obviously the initial plan for Lashley at ‘Mania. The build since the Royal Rumble has been for Wyatt and Lashley to collide, undoubtedly with some Uncle Howdy shenanigans thrown in for good measure. The issue is that Wyatt has been off of TV for the last couple of weeks with some sort of illness/physical issue that WWE is keeping tightly under wraps. The expectation seems to be that Wyatt is going to miss the show at this point, meaning that an alternate spot on the card needs to be found for Bobbles.

LA Knight

WWE has to find a way to get LA Knight on the card considering that this is the year when ‘Mania is in Los Angeles. The egocentric star has been promising an appearance for weeks and given that Knight was the last wrestler to face Wyatt at a Premium Live Event the storyline is pretty easy to build. There is also a rumor of some type of ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin involvement in this match, something that would certainly pop the crowd at Sofi were the glass to suddenly break during the bout.

Randy Orton/Jay White

Announcing an opponent for Lashley with only a week to go is no time to build a match. The other option is to have the All-Mighty without an opponent and have him in the ring cutting a promo about how pissed he is that he isn’t on the card. This would be an ideal way to bring in a surprising competitor for Lashley, perhaps a returning Randy Orton (if he is healthy) or a debuting Jay White. Any loss suffered by Lashley here wouldn’t hurt the character – he wasn’t ready for his opponent – and could lead into a feud through the spring if Wyatt remains out of action for an extended period.
