WWE, Edge, Royal Rumble

It’s Royal Rumble Season

We are bang in the middle of Royal Rumble season in the WWE with the event that – outside of WrestleMania – is the most anticipated on the schedule every year. This year’s rumble is taking place on Saturday, January 28, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX, and if you are lucky enough to live in that part of the country, then getting tickets to attend the show is almost required, given how the soap opera surrounding our favorite soap opera is currently playing out.

This is the first Rumble that Triple H will oversee, but given all the rumors surrounding the sale of WWE – will it be Saudi Arabia, Apple, or even Tony Khan and AEW – it could also be his last. With that in mind, I expect a seriously high-end show from WWE here, with potential surprises all over the place, to bring the Rumble back to its heyday when you had no idea how it would play out.

Royal Rumble Rumors

Here are some Royal Rumble rumors as we stand two weeks from the show.

  • Edge & Beth Phoenix – There was a report that Edge would face Finn Balor in a Hell in a Cell match at the Rumble. This seems hard to believe at this point – there would be no build for something that should be important – but I wouldn’t be at all shocked to see Edge make his return in the Rumble match. It would also make sense (in that case) for Phoenix to appear in the women’s Rumble. While WWE has done an excellent job building its women’s roster, there are still holes in i. Phoenix is always in great shape, and her star power as a legend adds to the match.
  • Doudrop – Terrible name aside, Doudrop is a solid hand who has been out with illness for months. Rumors are that she will be back for the Rumble, and if she is, I would expect her to go on an elimination run for a stint before being thrown out.
  • Logan Paul – It is WWEs second biggest show, so getting an appearance from Paul seems almost certain to happen. He has taken to wrestling in a way few thought possible, and he guarantees extra eyes on the product. What he will be able to do is the question, with the injuries he picked up at Crown Jewel still hampering his ability to be in the ring.
  • The Rock – Imagine the scenes here. If The Rock is going to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania in April, as has been the rumor for a while now, then the RUmble would be the obvious place for the Hollywood superstar to make his intention known. If his music hits, the crowd will go insane.
  • Cody Rhodes – Another wrestler coming back from injury is Cody Rhodes. His return run in the company has been outstanding, and he is another wrestler whose music will set the crowd off with a massive pop if he is back in San Antonio.
  • AEW Guys – what if Khan does buy WWE in the next week, and they find a way to slot some AEW guys into the Rumble? This could be the invasion storyline we wanted – but never got – when WCW was bought by Vince McMahon to end the Monday Night Wars. Almost completely unlikely to happen in 2023 (maybe 2024…), but one can hope.

Always remember folks. Pro Wrestling is Real.
