How Many Chances Does CM Punk Get?

There are plenty of wrestlers with weird career paths, but it is hard to think of any that have been weirder – or more controversial – than CM Punk. Punk – who famously fell out of favor with WWE to the point of suing the company for breach of contract/negligence – looked to have found a home in AEW. Then came the infamous backstage fight at All Our 2022, and Punk seems to be done with Tony Kahn’s company too.

Logically this would be the end of the road for Punk in major US wrestling companies. This is especially true as Kahn also pulls the strings with Ring of Honor, about the only landing spot if Punk wanted to continue. Why, then, is there now a rumor that Punk will be returning to WWE in short order?

Simply put, how many chances does one man get?

Social media is wild, and celebrities can cause a major stir with just a single post. Those celebrities include wrestlers with dubious employment status, so when Punk posted an old picture of his time in WWE on his Instagram stories, it was akin to lighting a flame.

The picture was of Punk standing on the middle turnbuckle clapping his hands, complete with the yellow and black ring gear many associate with his time in Connecticut. It might mean nothing, but Punk isn’t the type of wrestler – or human – who does things without thinking. There is definitely some motivation behind this post, though what it is remains a mystery for now.

It was 2014 when Punk left WWE under a major cloud. One difference between the Chicago superstar and some of the wrestlers who have been bought back into the fold as of late after being fired is that his beef was not just with the now-retired Vince McMahon. Punk and Triple H have never seemingly been on anything like good terms, so that would be a potential stumbling block amid any rumors of a return.

All this is set mid a backdrop where Punk is still a contracted AEW talent, no matter how unlikely it is he appears in the promotion again. This is a watch-this-space kind of story, but with Punk, somehow, it seems that nothing is ever impossible.

Always remember folks. Pro Wrestling is Real.
